Q: How do I care for my jewelry?
A: Please refer to our Care & Use page! Thank you.
Q: How should I choose the right length for a necklace or size for a ring or bracelet?
A: One way to find out your size is by measuring existing rings, bracelets, or necklaces that you have. Note that our pieces will certainly vary slightly from these, but it is a good starting point! Another thing to note is that each product photo of a ring, bracelet, or necklace, will in its product description tell you what size is being photographed to give the item context. We'll gladly help you via email to choose an appropriate length/size for your sculptural accessory, so please feel free to email us: email@example.com
Q: How heavy is this accessory?
A: We make lightweight sculptural accessories! Everything we make is lighter than you might expect based on size alone. The components, such as chains and ring bands, are solid metal; however, the settings are not solid metal. This is part of our unique process — gems and components are encased in a sculpted plastic base, coated with genuine silver or 23K gold leaf, and sealed with a non-toxic seaweed shellac. Every piece we create is tested on the body to ensure comfort. Please email us if you wish for an average weights of the items in which you are interested.
Q: I received my order and the jewelry looks slightly different from the pictures on the website. Why?
A: All of our sculptural accessories are hand-made by our artists. They are free-form sculptures and we use raw gemstones; this means that the jewelry you receive will vary slightly from the photos in our shop. We make each piece based on the stones, and do our best to match the aesthetic of the original. We consider the eccentricities to be a defining characteristic of our jewelry; your piece will be entirely unique and one-of-a-kind. If you have any concerns about this, please do reach out to us, we'll be happy to help you: firstname.lastname@example.org
Q: What is the difference between "plated" and "filled" metals?
A: Make Wilde doesn't use any plated metals; all of our findings from Hoover and Strong are either pure or filled, such as chains, wire, or clasps.
If a metal is "plated," it has a very small amount of the metal on the outer surface, whereas a "filled" metal has "almost 100 percent more gold [than] gold-plated items" (ebay). A "filled" metal will never wear off the way that a plated metal will.
We use 14K gold-fill for most of our designs to maintain an affordable price for our clients. However, as we've mentions, every Make Wilde piece is made-to-order, so if you wish for one of our designs to be made using components of any solid gold variety, we can absolutely accommodate your request.
Q: Some of your stones are "reclaimed" — what do you mean?
A: Something that is "reclaimed" is either retrieved or recovered from a previous "end" destination. For example, some of the raw stones we use are reclaimed from earth science education materials, to be used in the jewelry. We also reclaim stone, glass, ceramic, and metal beads from antique or resale jewelry, repurposing them in our work.
Q: Is there any nickel in your jewelry?
A: Nope! None at all!
Q: Where do you source your materials?
A: We use sustainable, local, unique materials that provide affordability and quality for our clients. Here is a detailed list of our materials, with complete sourcing: Materials List
